HTC buys Abaxia, gets cozier with carriers in the process
Author: admin9 Jun 2010
French software firm Abaxia has made a name for itself create white-label modules that help carriers brand phones — its two flagship products are search and active home screen apps (pictured) — so the fact that HTC has shelled out €11 million (about $13.1 million) for the company this week should offer you a solid clue where this is all headed. Naturally, HTC isn’t talking about exactly how Abaxia will fit into the big picture, but boss Peter Chou says that the acquisition will "deepen and broaden [their] software development capabilities so that [they] can innovate at an even faster pace." Software value-add is becoming even more important for phone manufacturers these days as hardware all converges on a fairly standard full-touch prototype that doesn’t offer much opportunity for differentiation — even as Microsoft is putting the kibosh on serious customization in Windows Phone 7 — so it’ll be interesting to see how this ultimately affects HTC’s products, particularly those with carriers’ logos silkscreened around back. Follow the break for HTC’s full release.
HTC Wildfire
Author: admin23 May 2010

HTC Wildfire is a brand new mid range Android powered smartphone from the company – targeting young folks who may be going mobile for the first time. HTC Wildfire will be running Android 2.1 Eclair operating sytem and will come with a decent set of hardware features for a mid-range device.
Take for example the 3.2″ QVGA capacitive touch screen with pinch to zoom; or the 512MB ROM and the 384MB RAM, and even microSD card for extra storage. 1300mAh battery should give you more than 400 hours talk time but not sure how much that would translate if you were to browse the web the whole time. HTC Desire has a 5MP camera with auto focus and flash and can geotag your photos if you choose to. That means Wildfire has a GPS receiver and a few other sensor such as the G-sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor, and the ambient light sensor.
Some other stuff includes Bluetooth 2.1, FM radio, WiFi, 3.5mm audio jack, and a micro USB port. And the processor of course: Qualcomm MSM7225 buzzing at 528 MHz.
No word U.S. release just yet. HTC Wildfire will be out in Europe and Asia in third quarter of this year.

HTC abandons its plans for Google Chrome OS tablet
Author: admin21 Jan 2010

At CES 2010, there were a lot of tablets on display, and everyone is saying that this is the year of the tablet. Unfortunately, there is one tablet that won’t be made, at least for now.
Apparently, there was a rumor that HTC was working with Google to make a Chrome OS tablet. However, the marketing director says no, and that they are concentrating on making Android-powered smartphones instead.
I suppose I should say “too bad”, but considering the amount of tablets on the market, I don’t think we’ll notice one missing.
HTC Legend still looking good
Author: admin14 Dec 2009

We got a pretty good glimpse of HTC’s rumored Legend back in that huge roadmap leak a few days back, but now we’re circling back for a better shot (and a few more details) of the probable Hero successor in all its roughly-rendered glory. High-end aficionados are probably still going to want to set their sights on the Bravo (or the Google Phone, Nexus One, Passion, what have you), but this sucker won’t be a slouch, either — it looks like it’s signed up for a 600MHz MSM7227 and, more importantly, a WVGA display. We’d already known this from the last leak, but what’s new here is the presence of HTC People II and Footprints II, suggesting that Sense is going to get some sort of refresh to commemorate the launch. Add in the alleged metal casing, and we bet this thing’s gonna be a looker in the flesh; needless to say, March can’t come soon enough.
