And unless Google’s trying to stamp out your revenue stream, who doesn’t? Now Acer chairman, JT Wang, says that he expects to be first to market with an official Chrome OS netbook — sometime in the second half of 2010 according to DigiTimes‘ sources. In fact, JT says that Acer’s been working on a Chrome OS device since mid-2009. This despite admittedly weaker than expected demand for its dual-boot Android netbook, the Aspire One AOD250. Guess even the Google halo isn’t enough to shoehorn its smartphone OS into a market dominating position on cheap ultra-portables. It’s worth pointing out that DigiTimes‘ moles aren’t saying anything new with the launch time-frame since Google’s target for its gold Chrome OS build has been 2H of 2010 ever since the lightweight OS was announced. Not that the timing matters too much since we’ll likely be seeing plenty of Chromium OS netbooks flooding the grey market long before the second half of 2010.

The Google Chrome OS is a web-centric operating system, which every application will be web-based and launch in a browser. And the OS itself is just a launchpad of the browser. If you wanna try out the Chrome OS on your netbook, now you can get the Chrome OS on a USB stick, allows you to boot it and run on your netbook.

The USB version of the Chrome OS was built by Hexxeh, and he’s setup a website that includes Windows, Linux and Mac instructions on how to get the Chromium OS image onto a USB stick. The Chrome OS image can be downloaded as a torrent from here or the mirror link by Engadget. And of course, you’ll then need to use a torrent client like uTorrent to download the .tar.gz version of the Chrome OS image, which is about 300+MB.

If you’re doing it on Windows, it’s kinda easy, extract the Chrome OS image from the downloaded chromiumos.tar.gz. Download the Windows version of Image writer and launch it, then select where the Chrome OS image and the USB drive letter for writing the image to.

Once you’ve done this, then you’ll have then got an USB-bootable Chrome OS which you can try on your netbook. If you’ve got some problems on booting it up, then you’ll have to find out more how to get a USB OS to boot on a netbook. The instruction on getting Windows 7 to boot from a USB drive here may help.

Please take note: the current version of Chrome OS lack of lots of drivers, which means some parts of your computer may not work when using Chrome OS. For example WiFi, WiFi will fail as no driver yet. Also note Google is targeting to release a device with native Chrome OS support in end of 2010.

We will start with the piece of fact: Despite promises to present the August and November, and despite the availability of numerous leaks over the summer, is Michael Arrington’s CrunchPad MID tablet, which is not yet upon us, and most of it we have heard nothing about them for months. The wild speculation relates to the question of why Silicon Alley Insider communicate with a variety of options ranging from cost of materials (escalating wildly, the product is unprofitable) for a little less likely (it is waiting for Chrome OS). We would not even if the promised $ 300 price point by surprise, is simply not possible, but it would be quite a shock to learn that it simply withhold until the whole thing put the economy picks up, finally some steam. Or maybe the Illuminati, you never know exactly what they do now.

We’ve heard vague allusions to Chrome OS hitting devices in the near future, but with Google’s official stance that it won’t be ready until sometime late next year, well, we were a little skeptical. Now we’re hearing reports that Chinese netbook manufacturers are doing everything they can to get little Chrome lappies running a "preview edition" of the OS out onto the Asian markets by sometime next month, and we’re still skeptical — but intrigued. These devices from a company called Lemote run a MIPS-based CPU called the Loongson, which currently powers a custom flavor of Linux named, get this, Loonux. That OS has been receiving criticism for things other than its title, so it’s not surprising that the company is interested in trying something new, apparently even if that new thing is still half-baked and rather doughy in the middle. That these devices currently sell for under $200 is even more intriguing, but even if they do indeed get a bit of shine next month don’t expect to find one locally — at least not for that price.
