Sony announced in at the IFA the VPL-VW90ES, a new 3D home cinema projector, “which gives movie fans the opportunity to enjoy an unrivalled 3D cinematic experience in the comfort of their own home.”

The Sony VPL-VW90ES can project 3D in Full HD 1080p and it is capable of taking 2D video and simulating 3D image. It features upgraded SXRD 240Hz Panel which minimizes image distortion or crosstalk,  a dynamic contrast ratio of 150,000:1, Advanced Iris 3 technology for true depth of colour and brightness. Canon announced two new compact XF-Series professional camcorders, the XF105 and XF100, which are the camera maker’s smallest professional camcorders. Both of them are equipped with Canon’s Full HD 1920×1080 CMIS image sensor and uses the Canon XF Codec, which is an “MPEG-2 4:2:2 50Mbps codec used for exceptional high-definition image quality, full non-linear editing (NLE) systems compatibility and efficient, robust workflow.

The XF105 and XF100 feature Canon 10x HD zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 30.4mm – 304mm, the DIGIC DV III image processor, an infrared feature enabling the capture of HD video shooting in conditions with little to zero ambient light and a 3.5-inch LCD display. They also include built-in features to assist with 3-D production, including OIS Lens Shift to aid in optically aligning two XF105 or XF100 camcorders and a Focal length Guide for displaying the zoom position of each camera in relation to each other and calibrating the zoom distance.

These compact professional camcorders have dual XLR inputs for external audio sources as well as a built-in stereo microphone. The XF105 model will also get industry-standard HD-SDI output and genlock in/SMPTE time code (in/out) terminals. Canon XF105 and XF100 will be released in Q1 2011.[canon]

Motorola officially announced the new Milestone 2 Android smartphone, which is basically the international version of the DROID 2. Like its predecessor Milestone, the new Milestone 2 supports GSM/WCDMA 3G network instead of CDMA EVDO. The phone runs Android 2.2 OS with MOTOBLUR Enhanced and includes Flash Player 10.1 and WiFi hotspot function.

Like the DROID 2, the new phone packs 1GHz OMAP chip, 512MB of RAM. It has a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 5 Megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 720p HD video recording, 8GB internal memory, Bluetooth, WiFi, DLNA and GPS. The Milestone 2 supports microSD/SDHC memory cards.

Canon announced that it has developed the world’s largest CMOS image sensor with 202×205 chip size. With an increased size, the new CMOS sensor allows more light to be gathered thus enabling shooting in low-light environments.

According to Canon, the new sensor capable of capturing images in one one-hundredth the amount of light required by a professional-model 35mm full-frame digital SLR camera due to its expanded size enabling greater light-gathering capabilities.[canon]

Philips officially introduces its GoGear Connect Android-based portable media player. The player is a true Andorid PMP as it comes pre-installed with Google Mobile application and is able to access the Android Market for over 100,000 apps using integrated WiFi connectivity.

The GoGear Connect has a 3.2-inch 480×320 touchscreen, built-in camera with video recording, GPS, Bluetooth and microSD card slot. It supports MP3, WMA, M4A, AAV, OGG, FLAC audio; WMV, MP4, H.264, AVI video and JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF files. The player runs Android 2.1 OS.

ViewSonic Europe officially announced the ViewPad 7, the world’s first 7-inch Android 2.2 Froyo tablet. The ViewPad comes with full 3G and phone functionality as well as MMS/SMS messaging.

The ViewPad 7 has a 7-inch touchscreen, a 3 Megapixel main camera, a VGA front camera, Bluetooth, GPS/AGPS support, WiFi and microSD card slot. Thanks to Android OS, the tablet is capable of multi-tasking and offers access to the Android market.

Apple officially announced its new iPod touch 4G (2010 model) with both rear camera for 720p HD video recording and a front camera mainly for FaceTime video conversation with friends. The new iPod touch is even slimmer than the previous generation, measuring just 7.2mm thick.

The new iPod touch is basically a simplified version of the iPhone 4, taking away the phone/3G data function and packing less advanced cameras. It features the same 3.5-inch 960×640 Retina Display, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and WiFi 802.11b/g/n connectivity. The player is also equipped with 3-axis gyro, accelerometer and ambient light sensor. It’s built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery offers up to 40 hours music playback and 7 hours of video playback.

The iPod touch 4G comes in 8GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities, which are available for $229, $299 and $399 respectively. It will be running the new iOS 4.1 that includes GameCenter.

Remember the button-less iPod shuffle 3G that relies on VoiceOver for control? Apple is now bringing the buttons back to the new iPod shuffle 4G (2010 model) featuring clickable control pad for music and volume control. VoiceOver is still available though.



The new shuffle is just like a smaller version of the iPod shuffle 2G. It has 2GB internal storage and offers a clip, just like other shuffles. The new fourth gen iPod shuffle is available in silver, blue, green, orange and pink and the price is $49.
